If I have an injury that is really hurting in my back area what should I do? I was thinking in visiting a doctor but I'm not sure if it is really necessary.
If you feel constant pain it is a good idea to go to the doctor, but you can apply ice and see if the pain decreases. Take a rest, because it is not a good idea to stress a injured tissue.
This is really good, i have a question i practice gymnastics and my ankle began to hurt a lot... if i jump or touch it it huts... do you think it could be something serious? a fracture maybe? or a sprain?
@Jimena Rivera: if you do lots of exercise is normal for you ankle sprains. What I recommend is the "RICE" treatment : rest, ice, compression, and elevation. It is very important you to get rest to avoid stress in your inflamed tissue. Applying ice on it will help to decrease the pain. You can find more information in this web site:
I am very interested in skeletal diseases and your page was really helpful! I have some questions: Approximately at what age does osteoporosis begin to affect your bones? What are some common symptoms of this disease?
Osteoporosis can appear at any age, but it is much more common as you get older, after age 50. This disease is more common in women than in men and other factor can be if your parents or relatives have presented this disease. The most common symptoms are: 1) Back pain, caused by a fractured or collapsed vertebra 2) Loss of height over time 3) A stooped posture 4) A bone fracture that occurs much more easily than expected

Here is part of an article from the web site MedicineNet.com "What causes myasthenia gravis?
Myasthenia gravis is caused by a defect in the transmission of nerve impulseto muscles. It occurs when normal communication between the nerve and muscle is interrupted at the neuromuscular junction - the place where nerve cells connect with the muscles they control. Normally when impulses travel down the nerve, the nerve endings release a neurotransmitter substance called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine travels through the neuromuscular junction and binds to acetylcholine receptors which are activated and generate a muscle contraction.
In myasthenia gravis, antibodies block, alter, or destroy the receptors for acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction which prevents the muscle contraction from occurring. These antibodies are produced by the body's own immune system. Thus, myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease because the immune system - which normally protects the body from foreign organisms - mistakenly attacks itself."
As you can see, it is a nervous system and can be caused by any activity that affects the transmitting of nervous messages.

It's called "open fracture", that is when your bone perforate your skin from inside and go completely out side. You can see the types of fractures in the images from the presentation. :)

if the pain is constant you should get to the doctor.
First of all you should go to the doctor for a check up and make sure it is a fracture. If it is a fracture the doctor will put you a sling. you should rest and try not to move your arm, leg, whatever it is, as it is already hurt and you can cause more damage. You can have the sling for weeks or months, it depends in the severity of the injury. Be patient!!
Don worry Patrik!! this disorder is caused by a virus, you don't get it by doing exercise, so keep doing sports and exercise, as it is important to avoid other disorders. You can get more information in the following web site: http://bodyandhealth.canada.com/condition_info_details.asp?disease_id=92
My husband was diagnosed with systemic mastocytosis last year and did go to the NIH for Medical check up .He had already had the bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, as well as the tryptase level test. Basically, they did some blood work there and took extensive medical history from my husband. They told us to go home and our local physician could follow up with him since there are specialist doctors to see locally.
